The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) held its first Australian Rules Football training camp for the 2010 program at the University of Canberra on the weekend of the 6th and 7th of February.
The SERAS Australian Rules Football Program is run in partnership with the AFL (NSW/ACT) Talented Player Program and is sponsored by the Queanbeyan Tigers Football Club.
Day one of the camp saw the athletes put through a battery of fitness tests including speed and agility by SERAS consultant Dean Chiron and SERAS intern student Joe Northey. The athletes then participated in an intensive skills session with former Essendon player John Harper which was followed by a video analysis of each player’s kicking technique. The 16 scholarship holders enjoyed a recovery session at the AIS pool late in the afternoon before a review of their kicking video was conducted.
On day two of the camp the athletes participated in a skills session with head coach Pete Jensen and a strength and conditioning session under the guidance of Dean Chiron. SERAS intern student David Halpin provided the scholarship holders with their fitness testing results and feedback at the conclusion of the camp as well as providing expectations for the next camp to be held in March.
