The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) held its first Basketball Program training camp for 2010 at the University of Canberra and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of February.
Day one of the camp saw the athletes put through a battery of fitness tests including the yo yo test for aerobic capacity, agility tests, and sprints by SERAS intern students David Halpin and Joe Northey. The athletes then participated in a skills assessment session with former Canberra Cannons player and SERAS head coach Ian Ellis. This was followed by a video analysis of each player’s shooting technique. The 19 scholarship holders participated in a recovery session at the AIS pool late in the afternoon before a review of their shooting video was conducted.
On day two of the camp the athletes participated in a skills session with head coach Ian Ellis and assistant coach Donna Berry. The scholarship holders will come together for a second training camp in March prior to attending the ClubsNSW Academy Games in Armidale during the April school holidays. SERAS will be represented at the games by a boys and girls basketball team.
The SERAS Basketball Program is run in partnership with the NSW Basketball.
