The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) presented three of its highest achieving athletes to NSW Ministers at Parliament House on Wednesday the 24th February.
The function at Parliament House was an opportunity for all regional academies in NSW to showcase the achievements of current and former scholarship holders that the academy network produces through the various development programs run across the state for talented young athletes.
SERAS was represented by Brittney McGlone from Braidwood, Luke Humphries from Goulburn and Cassandra Staples from Batemans Bay. Brittney was a scholarship holder in the 2006 and 2007 Country Energy Program and she is now an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Having already represented Australia at the World Juniors in the 400m hurdles, Brittney is currently training to make the Australian Team to compete at the Commonwealth Games in India. Luke was a scholarship holder in the 2006 Country Energy Program before accepting a scholarship in the 2007 Golf Program and he is now a member of the NSW Men’s State Golf Team and an Australian representative at U19 level. Cassandra has been a scholarship holder in the Netball Program from 2007 to 2010 and she has captained the SERAS team to the ClubsNSW Academy Games in 2009 and will again lead the region’s athletes at the games in 2010.
Executive Director Garry Lane said “Brittney, Luke and Cassie are highly talented young athletes from the SERAS region and it was fabulous for them to be recognised by members of the NSW Parliament. Brittney and Luke have excelled in their sports since being with the academy and Cassie has demonstrated her leadership skills as a member of the netball program over the past few years. It has been an enormous pleasure to have worked with all three athletes and the academy wishes them well for the future.”
